I was packing up stuff in my garage to donate or trash and stumbled upon my old card collection. A few thousand commons stacked neatly into bankers boxes. As a kid, I would spend hours reading the backs of cards and maliciously organizing them by team. Now they sit in my cold and spooky garage, untouched for over a decade. Guilt washed over me as I loaded up the boxes into my car. Before I hauled them off for good to donate, I decided to google ‘what to do with old sports cards?’ I spent the next few hours going down a black hole of sports card art. I was fascinated with the idea of taking these insignificant common cards and turning it into something special. This inspirational discovery just so happened to coincide with the pandemic; so I unexpectedly had a lot more time on my hands! Being a fan of the Mariners, and specifically the lore around the 1989 Upper Deck Griffey Rookie card, I decided to try and recreate that card, using only cards from the 1989 Upper Deck set. It took over a year to complete that first piece and instantly I was hooked on this concept of creating my own "puzzle". I’ve been pumping out collage card art for myself, friends, and family ever since.
I’m now dipping my toe into doing commissioned pieces. Please fill out form below for consideration.
